The Franciscan Missionaries of
Jesus Crucified (FMJC) are separate communities
of consecrated lay women and men, many with disabilities, living in the
world as a secular institute.
There are three characteristics of secular
institutes:
Consecration to God through the evangelical counsels
renders individuals part of a stable community and provides mutual support
for spiritual growth and service.
This
consecrated secularity
commits one to personal growth in
holiness and dedicated service in one's immediate
environment.
Through each one's
individual apostolate, the Church's mission of
evangelization is effectively promoted.
The Franciscan
Missionaries of Jesus Crucified was founded in 1987 with ecclesiastical
permission and aspires to be approved as a secular institute of pontifical
rite by the Sacred Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and
Societies of Apostolic Life.
We were established to
provide an opportunity for persons with disabilities to live a life of
total consecration in the pursuit of holiness, and the apostolate of
service to the Church and to those who suffer in any way.
Missionaries vow to live the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty,
and obedience with the promise of the apostolate, according to the spirit
of St. Francis, in a completely secular condition of life, in order to
effect a Gospel leaven in the world.
Anyone can
be called by God to a life of the evangelical counsels and of total
dedication to Him. The Franciscan Missionaries of Jesus Crucified is
a unique opportunity for persons with disabilities to respond to such a
vocation.
